Is there a bike show/expo this year? If so, where and when?

The "Bicycle Australia Show" is no more... it died.

Another company has stepped in and is trying to fill the void with a bicycle show in Sydney later in the year, but this is the same company that does shows like the Motor show, boat show and 4 x 4 show and I don't think they have the slightest idea of the actual money situation in the Australian bicycle industry. The prices they are asking for display space would just about put a man on the moon (in fact I laughed in their face when they told me how much they wanted ) and from what I've heard companies aren't exactly breaking down their doors to fill the place.

On a related note... the bicycle industry (only) "Trade" magazine has also bitten the dust and will no longer be published by Lake Wangarry (the publishers of Bicycling Australia, Mountain Biking Australia and the Bicycle Buyers Guide. Their other magazines WILL continue (and in fact are growing dramatically) but "Trade" has gone to God.

That's a shame. I went to one when it was held in at the Showground before it became Fox Studios. Was hoping it was still happening, I've got the urged to shop around for a bike at the moment.

Why did it die? I know Oz is a relatively small market but surely with the amount of ausie talent on the world scene we'd be able to get a little more support.

Why did it die? From what I heard it was due to a few things. Too expensive for trade to partake while crowds dropped off. Most people these days have seen the latest from the likes of SRAM, Marzocchi or even Giants/KONA's etc way before the date of the show.

Man, that is a shame! :(

I was really looking forward to the show this year! Even though I may have seen and read about most of the stuff on display in mags and on-line I still love to see it in the flesh and get touchy-feely!

Grip is correct. Another Expo' company stepped in to run a Sydney based show this year. But it has now been postponed until 2008. (I'm thinking due to lack of support)

Having said that... I've also received email from someone looking to run a Melbourne based show in Oct this year (I think).

I think car/caravan/travel etc shows can be put on because of the size of the industry. you just have to look at the car showrooms, the volume of travel agents etc to see that there is the money there to put on a large show.

Whereas with bikes there just isn't the moola around to make it worthwhile. I would love to go to a bike show, but unless there were massive savings then I wouldn't buy much. If the distributors put out massive savings, then the bike shops wouldn't be happy.

I think the US'o'A can afford to do it because of the larger size of the industry over there. They also love their expos there (see kenny the movie for more info)
