Im buying a new rear wheel for my trusty single speed stp0(06) this week and feel pretty good about getting a hope pro 2 laced to an mtx rim. I ride just about anything really as in im doing a bit of street now and have some dh trips coming up. Whats everyones opinion on this build? budget is about $400 on the hub. Any other options you think i should be looking at? I have searched and researched just need a little confidence in what im buying. Appreciate any help.

Yep, that's a good build. Another option is Mavic ex721.

A Tuff Neck SS hub laced to a MTX is what I would be going for if you dont want to spend over $400....

Both Tough and can handle a nice hammering.

721 For street? Yeah, great option if you have lots of $$ to spend on replacing them all the time....

721's are the go, mines copped a flogging on dj's, and some downhill and street as well. plus they're lighter than mtx's

Are you kidding? I know several people including Nicho, Chris benny and myself who ride street and dirt on 721s, and they are seriously one of the best rims out there.

I would go for a 721 over the MTX, Doug, they're lighter as well, by around 100g I think..

Buy off ChainReaction if you're wanting to save money too..

Would have to agree with Callan here. I have used a 721 on my 4x bike and it copped a battering from cases and general riding around the streets/skatepark.

721's are 590g while MTX are 640g. So theres a 50g saving. However the rolling resistance is more evident. 721's seem to role very quickly in my opinion.

However the MTX is still a great option if you take. They, like the 721 can take a huge battering while staying intact for long periods of time. So from either rim, you will NOT be disspointed with its durability and performance.

I would deftinitly go with the Hope Pro2 hub. They are strong, light and look great which is a bonus :D

now a rim on it's own certainly doesn't make a difference in rolling resistance.
the tire would have an impact there or whether you ride tubeless or not.

the momentum that a wheel has you can change though. a heavy rim means more momentum i. e. more energy input to start it and stop it but spins for longer when you stop pedaling.

if your running singlespeed, go a Halo Dirt JumpSS hub, laced to a 721, a mate just got one and it was only bout 250 bucks

Go the hope mate, either the MTX or 721 is a good choice depends on your
pref for width in a rim, I'm doing the same thing and have chosen Hope's and
MTX's. Can anyone tell us some decent spokes and nipples I should use ?

Just get some dt competition spokes and maybe some pro-lock nipples. The competition's are just as strong as the champions only lighter.
If you really are hard on wheels though, maybe get some alpine 3 spokes...

Tuff Neck hubs kick arse. For the price premium of the Hope hub you are just paying for a weight difference...

i have had a tuf neck hub its ok. But now i'm riding on profile hubs laced into mtx's which is a shit load better. i was looking at 721 but i dont really care about 5ogms after all u could just cut your seatpost shorter or your cables and bam u have lost 50 gms anyway.
