There could be a few things happening as a result of that photo BIll.
Either you're a bloody good coach and the young fellow is listening to everything you say or he's ignoring your style and doing his thing!:p
What a bloody legend! That is really impressive and very encouraging for the future of MTB. I tip my hat to him!

sweet shot Bill, lil tyke is a legend!!!! still remember him doin cutties on a bike 3 times to big for him at the carpark in Strommy earlier this year...make sure you keep him hooked up with the BiLT/Turner team!!!!!;)
What scares me is that at 10 years old he has more style and looks better on a bike than I ever will!
There was actually quite a few little guys really ripping it up on the weekend and hitting some of the big things. It really was awesome to see. All you little guys give yourselves a big pat on the back!

That's a great shot, Ben was in awesome form on the weekend. And I'm sure you could jump like that if your "huck muscle" was working properly!! The good thing about being a bit older is you have more excuses. Mine was "someone has to drive us home after the race".

That drop is a lot bigger than a ten year old rider - pull your head in mate.
I have a 6 yo who is also very enthusiastic. not doing drops that big yet, but maybe next Tuesday. I had a lot of trouble finding decent bikes for kids in Australia. What bike is your son riding? Presumably, it is a 24" wheel, what age did he move to that size. My son has a lot of trouble changing down gears (gripshift style gears) with his gloves on. What gear shifting mechanism worked for your son? Do you have any tips for very junior development? Best of luck with your son. He is very lucky to have a facility like strombolo nearby.

That's a great shot! Outstanding form for a six year old!!! You might want to start him out in BMX at this age. My son David started in DH at 9 but prior to that had not done any competitive riding, a stint at BMX would have been good for him. In terms of 24" DH bikes with small frames, the bikes to look for are: Kona Stinky Junior/24, Specialized Big Hit Grom, and Norco B-Line, but these little bikes seem to be hard to find. There's a Stinky Junior for sale in Canberra, it currently belongs to a kid named Mitch Kristianssen who races in the CORC series. Someone on this thread should be able to connect you with him.
And as for junior development tips - lots of riding, keep it fun, and get some body armour - injuries can be very discouraging for little kids.
