You can probably pick up an 07 Giant STP 2 for around that price, very good beginners bike and very upgradeable. Failing that, look around the for sale section of the forums, ask around and make some offers, you might be able to get a good deal.

you can get very nice complete BMX's for $1000, i know your probly thinkin i wont a MTB but think about it ;)

the progression is so much quicker!

check out the fit tem series

or yeah get a STP like every other clown. look at the P.series, they would be much better for street, horizontal drop outs and short chain stays

for around 1000 you can get an stp2 as mentioned above. but also something to consider is the norco ryde witch i personally believe is a better value bike. so the same price the following parts are better:

-rims on the norco are s-types insted of ryhno lites
-norco comes stock with a chain device
-norco has horizontal dropouts
-norco has the same brake calipers but better brake levers
-norco has a truvative hussafelt stem insted of a giant home brand
-norco has the mcneil style seat and seat post
-norco comes with better pedals, they have replacable pins
many other things

we currently have one in stock at ashgrove cycles in brisbane, drop in or give us a call. were at 498 waterworks road ashgrove, courner of coopers camp road and waterworks road ashgrove, phone number is (07)33660379
