Update: Velonews have some info here.
Ricky Boyer has sent in his update on Waddel at this current stage..
For those of you asking, here is some news about Johnny's current state. He is still unconcious in Hospital, vital signs good, breathing on his own. Brain bruising wont be certain until he wakes up. Due to wake up in a few days. He is trying to remove his robe and sensors too, so it shows hes not far away.
These quotes are from two of Johnny's friends, Marieve and Chloe who live in MtStAnne Canada, i know them too, they are great girls and know John and have been visiting him frequently.
"I pit-stopped at the hospital today again, he doesnt have an oxygen mask anymore so its better."
Chloe 2/7/03
"i'm good but a bit sad because of John... I go to see him everyday at the hospital and he is still unconcious. I talked with his doctor before and he showed me the Xrays of his brain. It's pretty bad, it's swelling and he has bruises everywhere. He told me that he should be waking up this week or in next week but he thinks he's gonna have problem to speak and act properly, maybe not forever but for a while. Anyways, i don't have a very good feeling about it. His mum is coming here this week and they will drop him to Australia as soon as he gets better.
Today, i told him what you wrote me in the email and when i said your name, he reacted pretty much. Anyways, it's hard to see him like that, i hate it but i try to make him remember all his mates, familly and stuff. I know he would get better soon, that's John! but i don't think he will be totally alright. I hope..." Marieve 2/7/03
They have been great in giving me info about Johnny and keeping me up to date, i also spoke to Nathan Rennie's Mum, Lynn, she had just spoke to Nathan, he saw Johnny's crash from the chair lift on his way up, and said it was the biggest and most horrific crash hed ever seen with Johnny going about 80 ft then landing on his head. He also said that he saw John's helmet afterwards and wishes that he didnt.
The outlook is a little uncertain for the future but with everyones wishes and John's manager Derin by his side he should pull through. Hes a tough nut.
Here's a pic of Johnny from the west Virginia Podium, All the best Waddel, come back soon.
