Pinkbike.com have received word from Freeride Entertainment that this weeks hottest internet rumour, Dave Watson's alleged jump over the Tour De France peloton during the L'Alpe D'Huez stage did indeed happen.

Having never jumped the gap before, Dave misjudged his speed slightly and brake-checked at the last moment, coming up short on the landing and getting bucked from his bike and down the tranny.

He was taken to hospital by paramedics and diagnosed with a partially separated shoulder and severely bruised groin but is in no trouble with the local authorities as it was judged that the only person he put in danger during the stunt was himself.

I know it's all pretty controversial, but I say kudos to Dave for having the stones to pull off such a flat out audacious stunt, you Mr Watson, are a certifiable maniac. Check out the full story here and salivate with anticipation for NWD IV - Ride The Lightning which will feature the jump in all it's 16mm glory.

In other news, Giant have thrown their weight behind the 2004 Ultimate Freeride Challenge. Next years winner will receive a frame contract from Giant along with a suspension contract from Manitou, a clothing and components contract from Race Face and a bag of sweet, sweet cash. Keep your eyes peeled for a 'Freeride' bike in the '04 Giant line perhaps...
