Bootes & Miller into World's Richest MTB Series

(VAIL - USA): The Jeep® King of the Mountain Series, which starts this weekend has unveiled a star-studded line-up of athletes set to compete for the industry’s richest prize purse at the 2006 World Professional Mountain Biking Championships.

The Jeep King of the Mountain Series, features 16 of the world’s top riders competing head-to-head to capture the coveted title of World Professional Champion.

In addition, the athletes will be battling for a share of the richest cash payout in the sport, topping US$100,000, and the keys to a new 2007 Jeep Compass.

Each event in the 2006 season, spanning July through September, will be televised to a national audience on CBS Sports.
Aussie Katrina Miller will be among the world's top women Mountain Bikers taking part in the series.

The Series will schedule stops at some of the most spectacular, scenic outdoor havens in the U.S., each providing for a unique backdrop and world-class recreational facilities.

This year’s race sites include:
• Saturday, July 8 - San Luis Obispo, California.
• Saturday, Aug. 12 – Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
• Sunday, Sept. 3 – Beaver Creek, Colorado.

• Wade Bootes (AUS) – 2006 MTN X National Champion, 2005 JKOM Runner Up, 2004 JKOM World Professional Champion, 2 UCI BMX Series Championship Titles
• Eric Carter (USA) – 2005 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Champion, Winner of 8 NORBA titles, 2-time World Cup Champion
• Michal Prokop (CZE) – #1 in UCI 4X Standings, 2006 UCI World Cup Champion, defending JKOM World Professional Champion
• Mike King (USA) – Former overall World Champion, 2004 JKOM runner-up
• Chris Powell (USA) – Ranked #7 in UCI 4X Standings, Medalist at 2004 U.S Championships

In addition to this elite field of pre-qualified international professional racers, the balance of the 16-athlete field - two men and two women - will be invited from the local community or based on results from other national and international mountain bike competitions, allowing these wild card entrants a chance to compete against the best of the best for the coveted title.

The World Professional Champions will be crowned based on a system of cumulative points earned throughout the Jeep King of the Mountain Series.
